Letter to Parents re new Headteacher appointment Extra Ordinary Full Governors meeting 11/5/07

What are their responsibilities?

Governors have a general responsibility for the effective management of the school, acting within the framework set by national legislation and by L.E.A. policies.

The law gives some duties and powers specifically to Heads and others to Governing Bodies, although in a well-managed school both will work closely together.  The Governing Body has a special responsibility for:-

  • the conduct of the school.

  • the financial management.

  • the religious education policy.

  • the PSHE education policy.

  • the use of the school premises.

  • health and safety

  • the special needs provision.

  • the school curriculum.

  • the Annual Report to parents.

Local Management of Schools (LMS)

Governors are responsible for managing the school budget. The LEA delegates a budget for teaching and other staff running costs, books, equipment etc.  The Governing Body, working with the Warden, decides what pattern of spending best meets the needs of the College and its pupils. Governors also have responsibility for management of school staff (employees)

The Governor's Statement of Aims & Philosophy for Our School

We recognise that all children are different and we therefore aim to develop each child's potential to its fullest extent.

The thorough acquisition of skills and knowledge at primary level will enable the children to progress through subsequent education and take their places as independent and caring adults in our society.

Primary school builds on foundations already laid at home and in the community.  We hope to continue and enhance this  relationship, enlarging the child's experience and abilities from a secure and familiar background towards wider horizons.

Under our guidance (through carefully designed programmes of study and first hand experiences), children have opportunities to develop academically, physically, socially and emotionally.

We aim to develop respect for, tolerance and appreciation of our world, its peoples and cultures.  We wish to help pupils develop rational methods of enquiry.

Our curriculum aims to be wide, stimulating and relevant to the children's experience. During the course of a year several different carefully chosen themes will be looked at with differing emphases on various curricular aspects to achieve a good balance.  At other times, children may be taught in subject groups where this proves to be the most effective method.

Children derive great benefit from the active involvement of their parents in their learning.  We positively encourage parents to come into school and join in class activities as well as to share books with their children at home. All of which helps to make school a secure and happy place to stimulate interest and enjoyment in a caring, sharing atmosphere.

Governors Policy on Admission

Children are offered a place in school in the September of the school year in which they attain the age of five.  (For example, a child whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September 2003 and 31st August 2004 may start school in September 2007. If you would like to visit prior to applying for a place, please contact the school office (01638 613103)  The school currently has an admission limit of 60 per year.   Admissions for the 2006/2007 academic year were 60.

Parents will be asked to sign our Home/School Agreement when their child  enters school in September.  This outlines the ways in which parents, pupils  and staff can work together to ensure that children achieve their potential.  It  also sets out the expectations that parents can have of the staff and school  will have of parents and pupils.
